The still waters stare in front of me
[like a glassy cage]
A mirror of my soul
L i g h t n i n g without its
A golden leaf floats out of the clutches
of a golden tree
lands on the water
without a single r i p p l e ...
To protrude the closed-off heart.

Arise and Breathe
little siren girl, held up by fishhooks
and lines - you'll only be free when
they cut you loose.
still, they tell you: you will not fall
victim to swelling tides, you
will float. (you are a dead weight.)
you are something incomplete
like the forgotten house on the
end of the row, eating itself,
dimming day by day:
paint chips and chapped lips
have nothing left to say.
there are monsters nursing
deep beneath your flesh, with
threadbare spines and trembling
hands, they are afraid of their own
shadows. (you are only weak when
your eyes are open)
a new year waits upon your doorstep,
promising to take all that was ever [you]

One Fate
She steps softly in the spring time,
trying to avoid landmines till fall.
She tells me she's afraid of dying,
but I know clocks scare her more.
That tick tock sound feels like a countdown,
to major cardiovascular event.
She calls herself a time bomb.
Her tears fall to my skin.
When all I can do is try and comfort,
maybe push her to walk
another mile or two.
I remind her to take the medicine,
determined to see it through.
Never have I put much faith in god
and even less in Man.
I have no faith in her willingness to fight.
I know the answers don’t lie within.
So I turn to her with much optimism,
reminding her, this is not t
