Disappearing MemoriesThe floorboards creak under my weight - holding only because of
the caked-on dust, making its home there
centuries ago. The windows let in dull light as the sun
sets outside of this night-dweller of a house.

Dust mites float around, twinkling in the light and
violently spinning in my wake. Creaks and shutters meet
at my feet as the house settles further into its foundation.
It's almost impossible to believe anyone had ever found happiness here.

Her lies whisper through the rotten wood, dancing through
the room and laughing with the wind. She -the last resident
of this shrinking palace - disappears with a final goodbye.
I stand in

002Makeshift memories cloud your heart.
One touch would fade away
like a scream in the night.
But would you even know?
You've shut yourself away from society
so you very existence is a secret
even to yourself.

You live in fear of the world.
You've been trampled, run over, hurt
more times than you could count.
At the chance it would happen again, you shut in your heart.

Trust? You know not of the world.
Taken advantage of, beaten, and left in the dust,
you cast the word away, like you cast the world away.

Like you cast me away.
