Memories shatter
like the windows caving in
on themselves
in the pressure of your wake.
And I stand there,
dumbfounded,
trying to recover the broken sentence
which had begun to form at my lips.

Air passes between the gap
barely even tickling the pink softness.
Finally, I close my mouth,
and my teeth banging together
sounds just a tad flat today,
signaling my resign.

There was never a more deafening silence.
Somewhat inspired by Alone on the Water which, even if you don't watch Sherlock (BBC), is one of the saddest things you'll ever read.

Aphasia: (n) the loss of a previously held ability to speak or understand spoken or written language, due to disease or injury of the brain.

"Pink softness" in place of mouth and lips was absolutely brilliant. Not sure why that struck me as profoundly as it did, but it needed to be said. Excellent poem. :D

Thanks! I used it mainly because I felt that if I had said mouth or lips it would seem repetitive :/ I'm glad you like it!
